McConarty v Goldblatt lives up to the hype

It went down to the wire and lived up to the expectations. Ivy McConarty needed some extra time but eventually outlasted Group A's top points-earner, Daniel Goldblatt, by a score of 8-7.

Goldblatt had been unbeaten in three matches, while McConarty had reached the Group A final of the spring season---which is scheduled to be played next week.

Sasha Brooks ended the weekend with a sweep of quality opponents in close 8-5 and 8-4 sets. Also, the BGO welcomed Devin Leung, whose first match against Annecy Tran went his way 8-1.

Meanwhile there was some controversy to the finish of Renata Cavallo's 5-4 win over Sina Dinan, in which time ran out at 40-15 on Dinan's attempt to serve out a game that could've brought the match level.

While the ultimate decision rests with the referee, the BGO has clarified its position on matches called due to time constraints. A game finishing after a strict time limit (meaning another event is due to begin on court) will conclude, albeit with no-ad scoring. The referee, however, decides at his discretion whether a game close to the time limit will commence.
