Bhagat takes first 12U event

Rohan Bhagat was tested twice in the lead-up to his first 12U crown, at the first 12U event of the season, but emerged with a 5-3 semifinal victory over Daniel Coma Dao and then seized the championship by defeating Cameron Lucci 4-2.

Bhagat tops the 12U rankings, the first published list of the season.

Lucci himself had to overcome a stern test in Steven Herrle in the quarterfinal round, at 5-3. His points from this tournament alone would be enough to set him in second place on the road to the Tour Championship, but he also carries ten points with him from another age group. He is currently also sixth in the 14U rankings.

At the 16U tournament on Sunday, William van Horne won his group dropping only two games, while Zi Yang took the reins in Group B with an undefeated 4-0 run. In the final, Yang and van Horne were well-matched, but the former grabbed a 4-0 victory to take the 16U title.

Yang shoots up to third in the Tour Championship race, with Luke Mearns' second place performance in Group A earning him enough to top the rankings at both 16U and 18U levels. Many of the 16U players will appear in the 18U tournament on May 22 to vie for more points.

Each weekend this spring and summer, Tennis Central is bringing you USTA and UTR tournaments at The Landon School. Earn points for advancing through each round, just like on the pro tours, and qualify for the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP at season's end.

Bigger events offer more points, with the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP offering the most, as well as prizes.
