Bondi wins Group A in Fall Finals

Blue Glove Open: Four Champions Crowned

In the NFL they say it is nearly impossible to beat a team three times in once season. It is not any easier in the BGO. Rex Bondi is our Player of the Week because of his stellar performance against a many-times rival, Bora Barclay, in the Group A Final, 8-4.

Noted for his willingness to play so many matches, Bora had a stranglehold on the top spot in Group A almost wire-to-wire. But Bondi showed there is considerable talent waiting to bubble to the surface in Group A. It almost certainly will as many of the players continue through the Winter Season and indoor Bethesda Country Club matches, with players like unbeaten Caleb Wade and longtime finals-placeholder William Green in the mix.

If defeating the same opponent often presents challenges, siblings like the Williams or McEnroes testify to how little enjoyment they derive from defeating their own blood in any match, let alone a final. Mack Fisher and Gus Fisher both qualified for the Group B Final after Cole Piraino and Valentine Parrella's challenges fell short. Mack held his resolve for an 8-5 victory and promotion to Group A, where he began his BGO career a season ago.

Renata Cavallo avenged a heartbreaking loss in the Summer Final to claim the Group C championship against another familiar opponent, Tomas Mulita, who held the top spot going into the Final. Both earn promotion to Group B as a testament to their rapid progress.

Yasmin Farahi took the sole promotion spot in Group D with her commanding performance in the Final against Elina Ipakchi, who managed to qualify despite joining the season late.

Champions:

Group A: Rex Bondi def. Bora Barclay, 8-4

Group B: Mack Fisher def. Gus Fisher, 8-5

Group C: Renata Cavallo def. Tomas Mulita, 8-3

Group D: Yasmin Farahi def. Elina Ipakchi, 8-2
