Huge Return Weekend for BGO

Blue Glove Open: Winter 2022-23, Week 3

The Epiphany this time was that nineteen scheduled matches welcomed back BGO hopefuls from the holiday break for one of the biggest BGO schedules in history. The division races have started to take shape in earnest as players headed indoors and braved the chill in record numbers.

Alexandru Cana finished .500 over the weekend but played four matches, taking on top opponents and emerging top in his group. He took perennial Group A title-contender Yael Lan to the brink and lost to Luke Mearns, but he also won two matches to win Player of the Week honors.

Spencer Weiss went 2-0 to take the overall lead in the early stages of Group A. Meanwhile, Krishna Ramaswamy won twice, the first a tight 6-5 thriller over Ted Wang, and hopped into first place in her group with a 3-1 record.

Jake Snow and Elina Ipakchi, rivals who meet often, produced one of the best matches of the weekend, with Snow prevailing 8-6. Another frequent matchup, which has had a tendency to be more one-sided lately, returned to classic form and was even closer: Ariana Ipakchi defeated Tomas Mulita 8-7.

It was a tough weekend for the two Group A mainstays, who were eclipsed by Carter Mills in fifth place and on his way upward. He'll take on Weiss this weekend for the Group A lead.

But there's a lot of time left. Winter is long.

The Winter Season continues! Join us on our RACE TO CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND when the Group Finals will be played. Continue the journey through the fall and winter with our outdoor and indoor BGO matches, our Travel Team, and the new USTA and UTR tour---the Sweet Spotter Series.
