Ipakchi captures Winter Group D

Blue Glove Open: Spring 2022 Week 1

Elina Ipakchi's many hours of tennis in different competitions this winter paid off with a Group D Final victory to close out her winter season. Ipakchi becomes our Player of the Week by virtue of her 8-2 championship win, her 5-2 overall record, and her promotion to stiffer competition in Group C.

Julia Ross had made her way to the final with her two wins and one draw. Her resolve to improve has only been fortified by the sting of coming second, and she'll be a force to reckon with for the players who will battle it out for the Group D crown in the spring, whose competition is already underway.

The Opening Day of the spring season did not disappoint for drama, either. Tomas Mulita and Cole Piraino could not find any separation between the two of them, shaking hands with a 6-6 draw. Both then dispatched the champion's sister, newly promoted Ariana Ipakchi---who will play her Group C Final during the Easter Vigil against David Gong---to take hold of the early lead in Group B.

The rival for match of the week came down to Elina Ipakchi's first Group C win, against Lily Venzke, in which the 10-8 score proved perhaps a renaissance of serve-and-volley, quick point tennis.

Carter Mills and Yael Lan also drew blood early in their group stages, with wins over Kiran Mathura and Ariana Ipakchi respectively. Early stages, but Lan heads to the top of Group A, with Mills and Lily Farahi just behind Mulita and Piraino.

Ariana Ipakchi and David Gong's much anticipated Group C Final will formally end the winter season on Saturday night.
