Ramesh hits triple

Blue Glove Open: Week 10

Arjun Ramesh soared up the standings in Group A this week with three wins, the biggest of which was sweet retribution for a previous close loss to Alvaro Orlove.

The rivals squared off on Oct 9 with Orlove taking the first meeting 8-6. Since then they've been scheduled to duel again many times, but weather and illnesses have derailed their plans. This time Ramesh turned the tide for an 8-5 victory.

Coupled with his wins over Cole Piraino and Yael Lan, Ramesh's promotion to fifth position in Group A makes him Player of the Week for February 4-6.

The headline match perhaps was a long-awaited fixture between Power Rankings giants. Ivy McConarty still sits a few points ahead of JT Mathura according to Elo, but Mathura got the better in their 8-3 set and keeps his commanding Group A lead. It was only McConarty's first winter season match; she quickly earned her first win an hour later.

The closest match, though, went to last week's POW Orlove and Siena Propst, who fought to a 7-5 Orlove win.

In Group B, Renata Cavallo and Gus Fisher made headway with convincing wins. Cavallo is just a game behind Valentine Parrella for a playoff spot. The only Group C and D match-up gave Caroline Peterson her first victory, and over a favored, tough Group C opponent in Lily Venzke to boot.
