Tran, Mathura with big victories

Blue Glove Open: Fall 2022, Week 3

Allison Tran edged newcomer Finn Koski 5-4 to take control of Group D and become Player of the Week for the Blue Glove Open Week 3.

Koski himself then earned his first-ever victory immediately after setting aside the disappointment of a close loss by defeating Shannon Bu on Saturday, 8-2. Tran leads the group with Shiloh Auzoux, on a bye week playing tournaments, and Koski right on her tail.

Kiran Mathura showed his improvement with a victory over Group A opponent Ben Cole, who's had great success against top opponents in tournaments and sits atop the league.

The regulars traded tight wins in the almost weekly series now between indoor academy players. Tomas Mulita and Ariana Ipakchi played two nights in a row with a different close result each time. Mulita remains in second behind Yaya Lan, who increased her lead with yet another one-game victory over him.

Approaching fast in Group B, however, is Serena Provinse, who won over Ilan Faraci 8-2. She is unbeaten at 2-0 but needs a few more matches to get the points to chase down the leaders. Faraci, meanwhile, has won recent USTA tournaments and is expected to work his way up the table after a challenging opening opponent.
