Yang grabs reins for 14U

Zi Yang took the top position in the 14U rankings with his 7-5 championship victory over Minghan Li in the Sweet Spotter Series UTR tournament on Sunday. Yang leapfrogs major winner Bradley Schultz at No. 1 by just five points.

Yang also climbs to fourth in the 16U rankings, with half of his 80 points counting in the higher age division's list. Meanwhile, Li's second SSS tournament brings him to 13th in 14U. Both players had to navigate close 6-4 matches in the semifinals after dominating group play. Aidan Armistead (8th) and Koa Hamilton (28th) were both inches away from the final.

With rain washing out Saturday's play in the USTA tournaments, the 14U was the only action this weekend.
