Yaya Lan scores big win; Arora in first

Blue Glove Open: Week 3

In BGO Primetime at Bethesda Country Club, Yael Lan and Jai Arora grabbed Player of the Week honors this week. Lan is honored for her 8-2 victory over Group B upstart Tomas Mulita, who had just dispatched Miguel Zein the night before.

Arora and Kiran Mathura, both with wins this week, thank Lan for the aid. With her first win of the season, she prevented Mulita from taking sole possession of first place in the group ahead of the former two. Lan now sits at 1-3, but merely three points out of third place.

Instead Arora seizes first place in Group B for the first time with a 2-1 record, which propels him as well to Player of the Week honors. Mathura's 6-5 stunner against Renata Cavallo means he remains in second, with newly promoted Group C champion Cavallo just one match away from the leading peloton.

Meanwhile Bora Barclay's wrist injury Saturday evening set back his doubleheader on Sunday. Instead Martin Ridao got off to a rapid start by defeating William Green 8-2.

One other thriller was played: Julia Ross and Annecy Tran fought to a 7-7 draw in Group D, keeping Ross in the finals position for another week, while Tran earns her first point of the winter campaign.
