Blue Glove Open: Winter 2022-23, Week 12
Elina Ipakchi increased her lead in Group C to four games by virtue of her two victories last weekend. In neither did she allow her opponent closer than three games---Jake Snow came the closest, and she also defeated Krishna Ramaswamy for her ninth win of the season. She is named Player of the Week and is a virtual lock-in for the group championship match.
Snow had held second place all season, but the onslaught of Nicholas Kidd has redistributed the wealth within the group. His enhanced his record to 5-1, losing only to Colin Wiltbank, with a win over Emma Choi this weekend. Right now that places him on a collision course with Ipakchi for that title.
The matches of the weekend, however, were held closer to the top of the overall table. Tomas Mulita fought Spencer Weiss tooth and nail to an 8-7 tiebreak set from which Weiss emerged victorious. Another who'd yet to find a signature win this season did so. Ariana Ipakchi earned the W against Weiss on Saturday evening in a close 8-6 match.
Alvaro Orlove had the weekend off, so no major changes took place on the leaderboard. Despite his loss, Weiss's win over Mulita increased his lead in second place over David Gong to four games, making the Group A race about as close at the moment as the Group C one.
The closest pennant race is going on in Group D---Lara Isler took the lead with her 7-3 win against Finn Koski, sending Sidney Immergut down to second place while Cornelia Touw lies on the bubble just one win from upending the status quo.
Andrew Liu set out on his maiden BGO voyage in triumph, taking care of Ted Wang.
Only a few weeks remain in winter until Decision Day and Championship Weekend with the division races heating up.
