Blue Glove Open: Spring 2023, Week 3
A winter final crowned the overall Blue Glove Open champion after a long wait, and yet the laurels fall to Shannon Bu for her impressive opening win of the campaign over Finn Koski, her first win since the fall season. She outlasted her opponent 8-5 in the closest match of the weekend to earn Player of the Week honors.
Player of the Season, at least for the winter, belongs to Alvaro Orlove after his championship victory against Spencer Weiss. It was their fifth meeting of the season, so the two opponent well-known to each other had no secrets.
After an 8-6 victory over Christmas in their first meeting, Orlove seemed to figure out Weiss more and more each time. This weekend's final ended 8-2 in favor of the thirteen-match winner. In fact, both were the only players to reach double digits in the win column among all forty-seven winter participants.
Bu rises to third place in the early stages of Group D, where Annie Lippard took charge and pole position after her 8-1 win over newcomer Henrik Chilton. Meanwhile, in the throne seat vacated by Orlove (for now?), Daphne Dunlap leads Group A at 2-0, having defeated Jake Snow over the weekend. Pushing Bu almost to her limit, only Koski was truly able to provide some drama in Week 3.
