Ross goes 1-0 with win over No. 2 Rajkumar

Blue Glove Open: Spring 2023, Week 12

Julia Ross earns the Player of the Week selection with an astounding 6-5 victory over Group D top player Zaki Rajkumar. Just two weeks left to go in the season, and Ross may have put herself in position to grab a finals spot.

Sadly the rain on Sunday nicked her and a few others' chances to solidify their finals pushes. Shiloh Auzoux and Finn Koski at 6-3 for Shiloh battled at The Beach Tennis & Pool as the showers drenched the courts, while Ross and Siena Auzoux were on deck and never made it to first ball.

All are within touching distance of the finals spots currently occupied by Annie Lippard and Rajkumar. Another place could open for Lara Dabney or Shiloh Auzoux with the right combination of results this weekend.

Thus, with Decision Day rapidly approaching this week, players are jockeying for position in a mad dash to qualify. Here are the scenarios:

Group A

Ilan Faraci and Daphne Dunlap have it wrapped up unless Serena Province, Alvaro Orlove, or Jack Mearns can produce some magic this weekend.

Group C

Lara Isler leads but is also traveling. That means an assortment of eight players on three points can grab the finals spot to play Ted Wang. The frontrunners are Cornelia Touw, Paisley Fromer, and Devin Leung.

Group D

Most of the action the past few weeks has involved Group D. Lippard and Rajkumar lead with Shiloh Auzoux and Lara Dabney hot on their tails. But Julia Ross's stunning win means she has the most chances this weekend to make up the ground and surprise everyone to reach the final.
