David Gong squeaked by Razi Dinan 4-3 to edge into the semifinals and then halt Jack Mearns' attempt to become the first second-placed player to win a semifinal, 6-4. But in the end debutant Arnav Nadikatla proved too much for him and the field at the 12U tournament on Sunday.
Nadikatla took the final 6-2 and dropped only 7 games the entire tournament. Now tied with Rohan Bhagat at the top of the leaderboard, both have earned entry into the Tour Championship.
Mearns was a late wild card addition who won each of his group games except against the eventual champion. His performance places him sixth in the 12U rankings, just behind Gong, who is also now 21st in the 14U field.
Saturday's action included Jonah Treitler's 6-2 championship victory over Andrei Dorobantu, both newcomers to the SSS finding themselves sixth and ninth, respectively, in the tour rankings.
