Blue Glove Open: Week 9
Though he lost his first match of the weekend, Alvaro Orlove bounced back for two tight wins to be named Player of the Week. He edged Bora Barclay 8-7 in a dramatic 7-5 tiebreak on Sunday night after defeating Valentine Parrella 8-5 the night before.
It was Kali Mathura who set Orlove back in their Friday opener. Kali's now just three points out of a finals position in Group B after her impressive 8-3 win over the Group A mainstay.
Tomas Mulita continues to lead Group B thanks to his 9-8 victory over Ariana Ipakchi. If the season ended today, it would be Mulita and Parrella in the group final.
Both Ipakchi and Liv Hoffman had the chance to take a slight lead in Group C in their face-offs against top-half Group B talent; Ipakchi had the better opportunity, dropping the tiebreak to Mulita. Renata Cavallo's impressive performance kept Hoffman from her fourth win of the season, but with her superior games-won percentage, Hoffman keeps first place.
In Group D, Elina Ipakchi jumped Julia Ross in the standings by virtue of her win over Ross.
