Touw, Lippard top week of classics

Blue Glove Open: Spring 2023, Week 7

In a week of classic matchups, two players could not be separated in one match, and another pair couldn't be separated for the Player of the Week honors.

It was Cornelia Touw and Lara Isler who dueled to a draw in the weekend's opening match, 7-7 when the tiebreaker had to be halted at 2-1 due to time constraints. Touw's tussle with the Group C leader to a dead heat prepped her well for an 8-0 victory over Finn Koski in the next hour of play.

Despite the same result against each other, Touw will be sharing the Player of the Week laurels not with Isler but rather with Lucy Lippard, who won her BGO debut in a tense tiebreak with Henrik Chilton. The win and draw place Touw in second place in Group C, primed for a finals rematch with Group C leader Isler. Meanwhile, Lippard debuts at fifth place in Group D, just one game behind sister Annie in the top spot.

Jake Snow moved into fifth place himself, in Group C, with his 8-3 win against Parker Javdan.

Daphne Dunlap puts her overall lead in Group A on the line against hard-charging Ilan Faraci this week.
